The Reclaiming Legacy Project (RLP) is centered around preventing the erasure of the hard-earned legacies of African Americans, Indigenous Peoples, Mexican Americans and other people of color who have contributed greatly to the progress of America. RLP seeks to do this by combating revisionist history with historical accuracy by unearthing, reclaiming, and giving visibility to these contributions, one legacy at a time, by any creative means necessary.

We’ve chosen to begin our inaugural project with the legacy of Captain André Cailloux, one of America’s first Black Civil War heroes. RLP is organizing the FIRST Civil War Reenactment for New Orleans proper. The FIRST Civil War Reenactment that honors a BLACK Civil War hero and the FIRST Civil War Reenactment done partially in giant, 10-12ft puppets. These life-like marionettes along with hundreds of human reenactors dressed in period clothing will bring to life the 3 mile HISTORIC funeral procession of André Cailloux. This epic funeral attended by tens of thousands, defied all odds and turned into an organic, racially unifying event.
