Praxis Projects

Connecting people to each other across identity, geography, discipline, and position on the field is at the core of all of NPN’s programs. These connections are often supported through regranting funds.
Praxis Projects, launched by the Department of Racial Justice and Movement Building (DRJaM) in 2025, is a regranting program designed to foster meaningful relationships between an art and culture organization and a social justice organization in order to shift material conditions within their city.
The $10,000 award supports an NPN National Partner to deepen a relationship with a local social justice organization. The 18-month engagement is designed to strengthen their political understanding and action. The exchange also helps social justice organizations better understand the role art and culture organizations can play in local movements.
These hyperlocal partnership experiments move both organizations beyond transactional engagement and instead cultivate transformative exchanges that are rooted in mutual growth and understanding.
About the name
The term praxis is defined as the intersection of theory and practice. The theoretical framework for this program comes from organizer, activist, philosopher, and author Grace Lee Boggs. In the later years of her life, Grace began talking about “Visionary Organizing,” which she defined as “organizing which gives you the opportunity to encourage the creative capacity in people.”
Praxis Projects is designed to connect this theoretical framework to NPN’s practice of fostering and deepening collaborative relationships.
