Founded in 1980, Dance Place builds a community of artists, audiences, and students through high quality performances, commissions, training and educational programs. We are committed to enriching the field of dance locally, nationally and internationally. Our thriving arts campus serves as an anchor in the development of our Brookland neighborhood in Washington, DC. Dance Place expanded its programming to include music and the visual arts through a National Endowment for the Arts Our Town grant with a series of outdoor events entitled Art on 8th. In the 2013-2014 season Dance Place expanded and totally renovated its facility to enhance our service to artists, students, and audiences. In addition to our vibrant weekly performing series and daily dance classes, Dance Place provides studio space for resident companies, ReVision dance company, Coyaba Dance Theater, People Objects Play and the Dance Place Step Team as well as our artists-in-residence program that provides rehearsal space for ClancyWorks Dance Company, DC Casineros and CultureShockDC. Under the leadership of Founding Director, Carla Perlo, and Co-Director, Deborah Riley, the organization has built a dedicated and highly professional staff, effective intern program for college students and junior staff program for teenagers. The organization prides itself not only as an internationally respected presenter and theater, but also as a provider for model programs for young people ages 3-21.
