NPN/VAN Welcomes New Board Members

NPN/VAN is thrilled to announce three new board members who will start their tenure in July 2017:


Eyenga Bokamba,
Executive Director, Intermedia Arts (Minneapolis, MN)

Rachel Cook,
Curator, DiverseWorks (Houston, TX)

Jorge Rojas,
artist, curator, and educator
(Salt Lake City, UT)

Eyanga and Rachel come from long-time Network organizations and Jorge is an artist who has been supported through the Visual Artists Network. The three new members bring a range of deep knowledge and experience to the NPN/VAN board and are welcome additions.

NPN/VAN Receives Two NEA Grants

The National Endowment for the Arts, the only funder in the country to support arts activities in all 50 states and five U.S. jurisdictions, announces its second round of funding for FY 2017. NPN/VAN was awarded two grants, $50,000 from Art Works: Dance and $75,000 from Our Town: Design. The Art Works Dance grant will support NPN’s national dance programs, supporting commissioning, touring, community engagement, and convening of U.S. choreographers and dance artists. The Our Town Design grant will support NPN/VAN’s creative placemaking research and archiving project, the Knowledge Building Initiative. The NEA was established by Congress in 1965 as the independent federal agency whose funding and support gives Americans the opportunity to participate in the arts, exercise their imaginations, and develop their creative capacities.

The Show Must Go On

The Performing Arts Readiness (PAR) project supports a variety of programs to increase the knowledge and ability of performing arts organizations to create and execute emergency recovery plans. The PAR project was formed in the recognition that performing arts organizations are especially vulnerable to loss of income and assets due to disasters and emergencies. The NPN/VAN Local Program in the Spotlight Again!

NPN/VAN is proud to be the recipient of another award for its contributions to its home community. The New Orleans Chapter of the National Conference of Artists annually honors outstanding individuals and organizations whose work enhances the creative, cultural, and economic climate of New Orleans. The National Conference of Artists, founded in 1959, is devoted to the preservation, promotion, and furtherance of African and African American culture, and the creative forces of the artists that emanate from the African World experience.

Say Hello to Meijun Wang, NPN/VAN’s New Intern

Meijun is from Guiyang, the capital city of Guizhou Province, in southwest China. She is interning with NPN/VAN while completing her MA in Arts Administration from the University of New Orleans. Meijun obtained a bachelor’s degree at the Arts College of Guizhou University, majoring in dance performance, teaching, and choreography.
