“What we experienced, both the destruction and the hope, will live with us always”

Two NPN Partners on the International Program’s curatorial team and two NPN staff traveled to Yokohama in February to further develop relationships with their colleagues at the Japan Contemporary Dance Network. During the trip, the delegation traveled to North Japan, to visit the site of last year’s tsunami and earthquake, witnessing first-hand the devastation and the Japanese people’s response to the tragedies.

NPN-supported Artists Featured in NY Festivals

During January, theatre-goers had a rare opportunity to see three NPN programs in action, in two major New York festivals, Under the Radar (Mark Russell, curator) and COIL Festival (organized by NPN Partner PS 122, Vallejo Gantner, curator).

On view was Mariano Pensotti of Buenos Aires, now on his Performing America’s U.S. tour of The Past is a Grotesque Animal. Word Made Flesh by Marc Bamuthi Joseph (mounted in 2011 as a celebration of NPN’s 25th anniversary) was shown at UTR and Every House has a Door’s new work supported by the Creation Fund, Let us think of these things Always…Let us speak of them never, was on COIL’s festival offerings.

Hats Off to Teo

Alert readers of the February issue of American Theatre magazine might have noticed a full-page ad from the Adrienne Arst Center in Miami, thanking Teo Castellanos and his creative team for their “extraordinary collaboration” on his 10th anniversary production of NE 2ND AVE. Teo has been presented by numerous NPN Partners across the country.

On the Boards Featured in Leadership

The Paul G. Allen Family Foundation and Helicon Collaborative have just published Bright Spots: Leadership in the Pacific Northwest that looks at regional organizations “recognized by their peers as achieving success outside the norm in their artistic program, their engagement of community, and/or their financial stability.” Featured in the free publication is On the Boards (NPN Partner since 1985), with interviews from Artistic Director Lane Czaplinski and Managing Director Sarah Wilke.
