Smart Leaders Get Smarter

$28,000 was awarded to six NPN Partners, from Miami to Minneapolis, to support the development of young leaders. Projects range from learning about social media strategies and promoting online archives, to training in Theatre of the Oppressed techniques and developing strategic plans. See the entire list of new awards.

The Mentorship & Leadership Initiative, as part of the Community Fund, is made possible by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, the Ford Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts (a federal agency), the MetLife Foundation, and the Nathan Cummings Foundation.

Creation Funds Available to Qualified US Presenters

Eager to commission new work? Even if you are NOT an NPN Partner, you can access a pool of matching funds, by collaborating with one (or more) NPN Partners across the country (see the entire list).

Last year, the Creation Fund supported new work from a diverse range of artists: Doug Varone and Dancers, inkBoat, Kristina Wong, Yasuko Yakoshi and others.

Deadline is July 31, 2011 — see the guidelines and application form.

New Videos Now Online

Ever wonder how a choreographer picks up a work after ten years? Or how the director of a black-gay-male ensemble re-envisions a seminal work with a new generation of dancers and spoken word artists? The new mini-documentaries now on line answers these — and other — questions!

Support for the video mini-docs, produced by the Center for Digital Storytelling and Mondo Bizarro, was provided by the National Endowment for the Arts: American Masterpieces program.

Health Care: What You Need to Know

NPN’s colleague organization, Fractured Atlas, has just produced two great new pocket guides:

The Artists' Guide to Health Insurance
The Artists' Guide to Health Reform

The two guides are “short, sweet, and simple,” providing a general overview of the new healthcare law and a good basic primer on health insurance. To check out the entire pocket guide collection, visit: While you’re at it, check out Fractured Atlas’ other great services: NPN artists get Fractured Atlas Associate Memberships for free. If you’ve toured on the network in the last three years, contact the NPN office for more information.
