May 2008

“WHY SHOULD I GO TO NPAC?” has been the buzzing question from Artists, NPN Partners, and members of the performing arts field for months now. “What is the point for either an artist or arts administrator to attend a national dialogue spearheaded by a diverse group of Performing Arts National Service Organizations?”

FOUR REALLY GOOD REASONS TO BE AT NPAC:

Reason #4
To Broaden the Network; develop new relationships with national artists and colleagues
Thousands of members of the performing arts community will lay the foundation for future cross-disciplinary collaborations, cooperative programs and effective advocacy.

Reason #3
To Be Inspired; hear great speakers

For example: Wednesday June 11th 2-3:30 pm–Playwright and Actor Anna Deavere Smith, Mitch Landrieu Lt. Governor of Louisiana and Bill Rauch, Artistic Director of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival will share stories of community-building with the arts.

Reason #2
To Develop Yourself and Staff; professional development workshops

Make art with folks like Will Power, Playwright Paula Vogel, Pilobolus Dancers, Baba Chuck Davis, and Rinde Eckert. Professional development sessions have been coordinated with some of the best and brightest members of the national arts community.

Reason #1
YOUR VOICE WILL HELP SHAPE CULTURAL POLICY!
Each day you’ll find thought-provoking interactive sessions, starting in small groups and culminating in a convention-wide Town Meeting. The goal? To create a blueprint for building a united performing arts community with a powerful voice that reaches into communities locally and nationally, heightening public awareness of the performing arts and their importance to our society and building a stronger future of the performing arts for years to come.

By participating in the AmericaSPEAKS caucuses and 21st Century Town Hall Meeting you will help set the agenda for how the arts engage, now and in the coming years, with our communities, with national, state, and local governments, with our supporters and with our audiences.

We need you to show up, share fully and act with commitment to build the future we all hope for!
