New Project Development

Local Programs
The New Orleans Cultural Plan has been submitted for inclusion into the Unified New Orleans Plan. The Cultural Plan was developed through the NPN led Cultural Summit held 1/16/07 and provided an opportunity for the New Orleans arts and culture community to express their support/concerns of the draft Cultural Plan.

Additionally NPN hosted a successful Funder’s Forum 2/1/07 along with the Louisiana Cultural Economy Foundation which allowed New Orleans Arts Organizations access to response from funders on the aforementioned Cultural Plan. The funders who attended the forum have already invested in New Orleans and were able to express their interest in our ongoing rebuilding efforts:

  • Roberta Uno – The Ford Foundation
  • Carolyn Somers – Joan Mitchell Foundation
  • Robert Frankel – National Endowment for the Arts
  • Rachel Bers – The Andy Warhol Foundation For The Visual Arts

For Residencies occurring before 6/30/07
NPN is conducting a Mid-Year Residency Survey to help us budget for the remainder of our Fiscal Year. One of the requirements of being a NPN Partner is to either use two weeks of NPN Residency or use one week of NPN Residency and apply for the Community, Creation, or Mentorship Fund. If you have unused NPN Residency weeks that you plan on using prior to the end of NPN’s Fiscal Year (7/30/07) please go to this link and fill out the brief survey. The survey should take less than five minutes to complete.

If you do not respond to this survey by 3/1/07, NPN will assume that you will NOT be using any more Residency Weeks this Fiscal Year. If you will not be utilizing any NPN Subsidy this Fiscal Year, please contact Stanlyn as soon as possible.

New Regional Desk in the Northeast
Please welcome Lisa Nelson Haynes, Associate Director of the Painted Bride in Philadelphia, as the NE’s new Regional Desk. We are happy to have her on board and look forward to working with her in the upcoming year. Lisa will be contacting Northeast Partners in the next month to find out the state of their organization in preparation for NPN’s March Board Meeting.  Welcome Lisa and thank you for stepping up to the position!

Laura Faure of Bates Dance Festival will be stepping down as the NE Regional Desk. She is currently in the throes of planning Bates’ 25th Anniversary season, and as you can imagine finds herself overextended. Thank you, Laura, for all your hard work over the past half year.

NPN Partner Events

Congratulations to Tony Garcia!
Tony Garcia, executive director of El Centro Su Teatro is one of 50 individual artists chosen to receive a new fellowship funded by United States Artists – a consortium of the Ford, Rockefeller, Rasmuson, and Prudential foundations – formed in response to the paucity of funding available to individual artists in the United States. Our congratulations and best wishes go out to Tony as he forwards his work with the help of USA’s fellowship.
