NPN/VAN MEDIA SHOWCASE KNOXVILLE: SOUTH AND WEST REGIONS DEADLINE FOR MEDIA REGISTRATION AND RECEIPT BY NPN: NOVEMBER 20, 2009
The Media Showcase is scheduled on Saturday December 12, 2009 at 9:30am.
INTENT
To expose local and regional performing/visual artists from NPN and VAN Partner’s communities to NPN/VAN Partners, Artists, and Colleagues.
PRESENTATION FORMAT
This year the Media Showcase will feature NPN and VAN Partners from the South and West. Each Region (South and West) will have 45 minutes to present work. 11 Partners from each region will be eligible to present media on a first come, first served basis. Due to the limited number of slots, NPN encourages cities with multiple NPN/VAN Partners and regions to collaborate on their presentation. (VAN Partners included NPN’s South and West regions are: Ashé, Diaspora Vibe, DiverseWorks, GalerÍa de la Raza, Hammonds House Museum, LACE, MACLA, PICA, Project Row Houses, Space One Eleven, and Women & Their Work.)
Each NPN/VAN Partner will have a maximum of 4 minutes to present one or more artist(s), companies, or collectives. The 4 minutes includes talking time, so please factor this into your presentation and limit your clip or plan to talk while your clip is rolling. We will be strict about the 4 minute limit.
To be considered: all media must be registered (through this site) and received by the NPN office no later than November 20, 2009.
LIMITATIONS
- NPN/VAN Partners may not present media of themselves
- Media presentation cannot be any longer than 4 minutes
- Media must be received by the NPN office and registered (through this site) by November 20, 2009
Recommendation: Keep in mind that the viewing audience will primarily consist of NPN/VAN Partners, Artists and Colleagues. Consider the following:
- Is the company too large for the target audience to present?
- Is the artist, company, or collective at a career stage and is their work on scale that seems appropriate for the audiences and facilities of the Partners?
- Is the artist, company, collective an appropriate fit for the NPN/VAN residency model and fee structure?
- How strong is the work sample? Bad Media does not do an artist justice! Check the lighting, sound, and image quality before Media is submitted.
MEDIA LOUNGE
In addition to the Media Showcase there will be a private unscheduled Media screening lounge in Suite 319 at the hotel. We encourage NPN/VAN Partners to use this space to show Media of additional artists or longer excerpts of Showcase Media. Look for late night “PJ PARTIES” on the schedule!
PRESS PACKETS
Press packets should be left in the Media Lounge and should not be sent to NPN.
MEDIA SHOWCASE GUIDE
A program will be included in the Annual Meeting packet which will include contact information, descriptions, and details of all the work being shown.
HOW TO SUBMIT MEDIA
1) Register Each Artist/Company
The form on the following page must be completed for EACH ARTIST/COMPANY presented. A HARD COPY of the form must accompany all media, so please remember to print a copy of the registration form prior to clicking “submit”. (If you are registering multiple artist/companies you must register the first artist, click “submit”, re-enter this site, register the next artist, click “submit”, etc.)
2) Collect Media
Media should be in DVD, CD or PowerPoint format. Other Media formats need to be approved by NPN/VAN. Media must be labeled with the NPN/VAN Partner name, Artist name, cue point and running time. NPN will run Media from the specified cue point. Total running time cannot exceed 4 minutes. All Media should be previewed before sent and packaged safely for shipping- NPN will NOT preview Media prior to the showcase and is NOT responsible for Media that will not play or is incorrectly cued. NPN/VAN Partners are encouraged to compile excerpts of artists on one single DVD, CD or PowerPoint slideshow. If this is not an option, separate pieces of Media may be sent. Media will be transferred to the Video Den after the showcase where it will be left; Media will not be sent back.
3) Mail Media and Registration Form
Mail a hard copy of each registration form along with the corresponding cued, labeled Media to:
